7 Best Facial Epilators – Facial Epilator Reviews for 2020

By Penova Dewan | Last Updated On January 5, 2020

The removal of hair, especially the ones on the face for women is unquestionably a burning problem.

I mean, think about it. Who wants to go out in the streets knowing that there’s one tiny little hair on their upper lip or a stray eyebrow hair sticking out at an odd angle?

The removal of hair from our body had never been a pleasant experience. From stripping our skin raw with wax to plucking the soul out of our eyebrows with tweezers, “torture” has been the norm when it came to facial epilation.

But science to the rescue! Technology gave us hope when it came out with epilators specially designed to remove hair from our faces with utmost care. However, selecting the best one for your skin could be challenging!

So, how would you know which one to go for?

Hi, I’m Penova, and the founder of the Beautishe blog. And if you’ve been asking yourself this very thing, then your search ends here.

Because in the following guide I’ll be reviewing some of the best epilators ever for facial hair!

List of Best Facial Epilators

Top Five Facial Epilators

1. Braun Silk Epil 9 9579 Epilator review

View on Amazon

When it comes to epilators, it’s no secret that the one brand that leads it all is Braun. And the Silk Epil 9 9579 from the brand is the latest and fastest model from the brand. It removes even the tiniest hair in a single stroke and makes sure they don’t sprout backup for more than 3 weeks!

What I like about the product?

The Silk Epil 99579 features the brands patented MicroGrip Tweezer technology. That comes equipped with wider and longer tweezers attached on a broader head which help to pull your hair out from the roots as painlessly as it can.

It can remove hair as short as 0.5mm in length. What makes it really comfortable to use is that the head moves back and forth, cupping the contours of your face as it goes.

But the best thing about this is that it provides pulsating vibrations as it depilates your face, which improves blood circulation and decreases any sensation of pain or discomfort.

Pros

  • Removes 4 times shorter hair than waxing can
  • Relaxes the facial muscles by massaging it while removing hair
  • Provides a smooth and painless depilatory experience
  • Comes with all the necessary attachments required for comfortable usage
  • Lightweight, portable, and cordless-could be used in the shower as well

Cons

  • Pretty expensive

Verdict

This is unquestionably one of the best epilators I’ve tried out till date. I’m ever so apprehensive about using facial epilators owing to my sensitive skin condition, but I’ve had no complication whatsoever using this.

It does a remarkable job of removing the tiniest hair like that of peach fuzz without even the least bit of pain. But, yes, you do have to pay good money for it!

2. Emjoi Epi Slim Epilator review

Emjoi EpiSlim
View on Amazon

Emjoi is a globally recognized brand that sells some of the most efficient and affordable epilators ever. The brand focuses on the functionality of the product rather than invest in additional features, which the Epi Slim reflects in its design and performance.

What I like about this product?

The Epi Slim, unlike its predecessor, the AP-9I, comes with double sets of tweezers which gives you a total of 18 tweezers, instead of the usual 9 from the earlier model. These are set on 3 disks attached on the head of the device.

One disk remains fixed while the other two open and close to stretch the skin during epilation so that it doesn’t hurt.

But, it did hurt when I used it though. The tweezers aren’t all that fine, and they pull at the hair with substantial force.

However, this is epilator does a decent job of removing thin and short hair without breaking them midway and could be used on the bikini line or underarms as well.

Pros

  • Easy On The Skin
  • 18 Tweezers For Effective Hair Removal
  • Small And Compact, Very Portable
  • Highly Effective At Removing Peach Fuzz

Cons

  • Uses Batteries Up Quickly
  • May Not Pull Out Coarse Hair
  • Not A Precise Eyebrow Epilator

Verdict

All in all, I can’t say that the Emjoi Epi Slim doesn’t do its job well. It is a sufficiently functional unit that is affordable and offers a decent cleanup for both thin and coarse hair alike.

I wouldn't recommend it for those who have highly sensitive skin to use it on their face, but it could be used easily on arms and legs.

3. Braun Face 851 Epilator review

Braun Face 851
View on Amazon
1. Braun Face 851 Mini-Face Cleansing

The Braun Face 851, which is also known as the FaceSpa, is one of the top-selling epilators from the brand that is a favorite with numerous users across the world. This is a simply brilliant model from Braun that provides the 2-in-1 benefit of a deep and gentle facial pore cleaning with an incredibly smooth and absolutely painless epilation.

What I like about this product?

The device comes with 10 micro-openings on the depilatory head, which rotate to give you 200 plucking motions per second. Thus uprooting even the finest hair measuring as short as 0.02 mm in length that is barely visible. What I like about it that it is bi-directional, allowing you to rotate in whichever direction you want.

It comes 4 sonic cleansing brushes that ensure perfect exfoliation plus pores cleaning, for completely removing dead cells, impurities and traces of makeup from your pores. Not only does this intensively cleanse your skin, but it also relaxes your facial muscles during and after epilation.

The Braun 851 epilator was designed off of the Braun 820 epilator. The 851 is considered to be the updated version of the 830.

The Braun Face 820 epilator is also a decent product but holds one fatal flaw. This epilator is not built for durability and rarely lasts longer than a few months. As it reaches the end of its short life it also will begin to use more and more power, causing the batteries to need to be replaced with increasing frequency.

Though all the models look identical, I think this new one has got few minor updates. Update: Here is a new update and deal for you.

Pros

  • Combines epilation with facial cleansing
  • Waterproof
  • Cleans face six times better than manual washing
  • Removes hair as short as .02mm

Cons

  • Battery needs to be replaced often

Verdict

The Braun 851 has been one of my personal favorites since long. This is because it is one model that works brilliantly for sensitive skin. But, in my opinion, a massaging head would have been a good addition to it for reducing irritation. And it breaks the bank for me when I had bought it.

However, I’d still recommend it for those having extra-sensitive skin any day!

The Braun 851 epilator was designed off of the Braun 820 epilator. The 851 is considered to be the updated version of the 820.

As it reaches the end of its short life it also will begin to use more and more power, causing the batteries to need to be replaced with increasing frequency.
Since 1921, Braun has been developing and selling beauty products. Perhaps most well-known for their electric shavers, Braun is a reliable company with a long history. Their expertise doesn't stop at electric shavers, though.
The Braun Face 851 is an innovative product, combining epilating with washing your face. Since a crucial step to epilation is exfoliating and cleansing your face, this device makes it easy to remember that initial step.
It comes with detachable heads to allow for easy swaps between the facial brushes and epilating tool. There are four brush heads for cleaning your skin- a regular brush, a brush for sensitive skin, an exfoliating brush, and a beauty sponge.
2. Emjoi Epi Slim Epilator

4. Epilady Legend 4th Generation Rechargeable Epilator review

Epilady Legend
View on Amazon
Emjoi is dedicated to creating beauty and hygiene products that are high-quality,
affordable, and effective. Although not as well-known as other personal grooming companies, Emjoi sells its products across the globe.
This product is specifically designed for epilating small areas of hair and does so very well. Prolonged sessions will cause this product to slow down due to the design. Since it is designed for short sessions of small areas, using it for larger areas such as your legs will take a significant chunk of time.
3. Epilady Legend 4th Generation

So for those who don’t know, Epilady is actually the first ever brand of epilator that was launched in the year 1986! And, since then, it has been on a roll erasing that bush off the skin for women all over the world, if one may put it that way obviously!

And the Epilady Legend 4th Generation has been one of the favorites from the brand for many users. And here’s why.

What I like about this product?

Right off the bat, I just wanna mention that this is an extremely durable device that in addition to being a facial epilator, could be used for removing hair from your armpits, bikini-line or for providing touch-ups to your arms and legs.

This is a chargeable epilator that is powered through an electric outlet on it. Although it can be used while plugged in, I’d advise you against doing that in the bathroom for safety reasons.

This does a decent job of removing coarse hair anywhere on the face and on the previously mentioned areas on the body. However, it uses a coil/spring system to epilate hair which can be painful, especially for sensitive skin and also can break after a point of time.

Verdict

This was the first ever that I ever used, as is probably the case with many out there and it does a decent job of cleaning up coarse hair well. But, it does hurt and is not suitable for removing fine hair all that much.

However, it’s still ideal for use on areas which have course growth.

Pros

  • Two operating speeds give users the ability to slow down or speed up
  • 12 times faster than tweezing by hand
  • Compact enough to fit in pocket or purse
  • No batteries to replace

Cons

  • The coil system is unreliable
  • Ingrown hairs are common
  • Only holds charge for 60 minutes
The Epilady Legend 4th Generation epilator is designed specifically with the needs of women in mind. In addition to being a facial epilator, this device is compatible to be used on the underarms, bikini line, eyebrows, and even touching up legs and arms.

This epilator is chargeable, similar to a cell phone. Instead of using batteries, the Epilady is charged with an electric outlet. It can be used while plugged into the wall as well as unplugged. When unplugged, it holds a charge for around an hour.

The Epilady Legend 4th Generation utilizes a coil system for hair removal. The spring coil design is notoriously unreliable because springs can come undone. The coil design is a more outdated style of the epilator.
1. Remington EP7030

5. Bellabe Facial Hair Remover review - The best Cheap Facial Epilator

Bellabe Facial Hair Remover
View on Amazon
1. Bellabe Facial Hair Remover
Remington has been involved in the creation of personal care products since 1937, and the Remington brand has been around since 1816. Although the company has changed hands and specialties many times over the years, this has allowed them to become a worldwide company with extensive experience in customer service and business.
The EP7030 is designed to be as practical and efficient as possible. It employs 40 tweezers, a detailed light, and a pivoting head. These features allow it to reach the difficult areas where hair may be hiding.
It also includes a variety of other tools for an easier epilating experience. The head is easily detachable for cleaning or swapping it out. It includes a head dedicated to precision areas, a massaging cap with Aloe Vera, and a cap designed to help you get the perfect angle.

The Bellabe Facial Hair Remover is a decent alternative to electronic or motorized epilators. It is extremely easy to use and ideal for those who have soft and fine facial hair growth. This is used manually and requires no electricity or batteries for that matter.

It could be easily cleaned and can be used near water.

What I like about this product?

The Bellabe facial hair remover is pretty simple and uncomplicated to use. It’s immensely easy to carry around and is great for quick touch-ups. It is basically a piece of really sturdy spring that is rolled on the skin surface. The grooves of the coil catch the hair and pull it off in one go.

You could move it in either direction. It can be ideally used on the upper lips, cheeks, and chin, and is useful, especially for spot cleanups on the face.

However, it won’t remove coarse hair as such, and it might pull real hard and hurt you in the process. It is only ideal for use on the mentioned areas on your face.

Verdict

This, in my opinion, a great option for quick , and I use it for the same purpose as well. This comes pretty cheap and is extremely easy to use. However, this works fine for soft hair but don’t try to remove coarse hair with it; otherwise, it might hurt quite a bit.

Pros

  • Small enough for eyebrows and other small areas
  • No need to worry about charging or batteries
  • Very portable
  • Works well on thinner and lighter hairs

Cons

  • Not as effective as powered epilators
  • Difficult to use on coarser hair
The Bellabe Facial Hair Remover is a unique epilator we're reviewing today. Unlike the other four epilators, the Bellabe option is powered completely manually. There are no batteries and no charger.
The Bellabe Facial Hair Remover fits into a small tube. It weighs less than one ounce, making it the lightest option, as well as easily portable. Due to the small size and manual design, the Bellabe is not as effective at epilating. It is not at all usable in larger areas.

6. Remington EP7030E  Smooth Epilator review

Remington EP7030E Smooth Epilator
View on Amazon

Remington, much like Emjoi, is a pretty affordable brand of epilators that are highly functional, comfortable, and uncomplicated to use. The E7030E is a popular model from the brand that is also considered a top-selling one amongst many epilator models from other brands.

It efficiently removes the finest hair from your face quite painlessly and is pretty compact for carrying around discreetly.

What I like about this product?

There are some really functional and impressive features to this model, such as a pivoting head which glides along the contours of your face for maximum comfort. The device comes with a set of 40 tweezers working efficiently removing all of the hair, even the softest and finest one, with just a few strokes.

The device also has a “detail light,” which makes sure that you don't miss out on any hair.

Some of the other things that I really liked are the efficiency cap with aloe vera green rolls which soothe irritation and a precision cap that allows you to use it on your bikini line. It is a rechargeable model but is completely waterproof!

Pros

  • Two speeds
  • 40 tweezers for maximum hair grip
  • Can be used on both face and body
  • Waterproof
  • Pivoting head
  • No batteries

Cons

  • Despite having a precision head, too bulky to use on eyebrows
  • Very noisy
  • Over time, loses ability to hold a charge
  • Sometimes fails to grip hair

Verdict

This is overall a pretty decent epilator that provides almost all the benefits of a standard model at a pretty reasonable price. You can easily avail it even if you’re on a budget. When I tried this one out, I was impressed to find that it doesn’t hurt as much as I had expected it would.

But sometimes it can miss out some hair which you have to go back in for.

7. Gillette Venus Face Perfection Women’s Hair Remover review

Gillette Venus
View on Amazon

The Gillette Venus Face Perfection is simply a marvelous facial epilator that’s designed to remove the finest hair from the most delicate areas of your body without causing any sort of irritation and pain.

Interestingly, this looks and works very similar to the Braun 851 that I had previously reviewed for you and has been a hot favorite amongst users since its launch!

What I like about this product?

The Face Perfection has a mascara-wand design that lets you get into smaller and delicate spaces on your face. It comes with 10-micro openings (like the Braun 851) that removes even the lightest, finest hair by gently pulling them off the roots.

This is a dermatologically tested product that can be used on the very sensitive skin. The overall shape and design allow you to have total control over the device. This could be used anywhere on the face and discreetly carried around.

“The venus face perfection works similar to the Braun face epilator. Even the size and shape also look-alike. Unlike the Braun face, it comes only with a cleaning brush, batteries, and the epilator itself. There's no upgrade, unfortunately. But, really worth to give it a try!”

Pros

  • Battery powered
  • No thick gels, which other facial epilators have
  • Good grip
  • No skin irritation

Cons

  • Difficult to use on curved areas
  • May need to apply pressure for full hair removal

Verdict

I really liked this one and could say it does substantiate the claims that it makes. However, by the looks and feel of it, it seems to be a dupe of the Braun 851, but without the cleaning aperture. This also comes at a lesser price than the Braun epilator and is worth a legit try for all.

Things To Consider Before Buying a Facial Epilator

Like with any beauty product, there are a number of variables to consider before purchasing a facial epilator.

Purpose, budget, and pain are all important variables to give thought to before purchasing your facial epilator.

Where Can I Use A Facial Epilator?

When you are researching an epilator to use on your face, be mindful that you purchase one that is designed to remove facial hair. Traditional epilators are often large and bulky, making it difficult to maneuver it in small areas. Since traditional epilators are designed for removing large areas of hair, such as on your legs, the head is wider to maximize surface area covered.

When you are epilating your face, you want to be able to see what you're doing. Using a traditional epilator could lead to accidentally removing half an eyebrow! Facial epilators are smaller with more precise heads to make it easy to remove unwanted hair. Purchasing an epilator for face is also wise due to it being easier on the sensitive skin on your face.

Girl epilating eyebrow

Some traditional body epilators come with a head designed to be used on the face. The effectiveness and safety of these two-in-one epilators are dependent on each individual product.

Budget and Quality

What About Budget and Quality?

Balancing affordability and quality is one of the more difficult parts of purchasing a new product. However, when it comes to beauty products, especially ones that are used on your face, skimping on quality can have severe consequences.

The saying ‘You get what you pay for' is applicable here. Picking up a $10 epilator at a drug store may not create the results that you're aiming for. You don't need to break the bank on the most expensive option, but remember that you're investing in your health as well.

Pain

Are They Painful?

An epilator is a painful method of hair removal at first. Since the epilator rips hair out by the roots, the experience is similar to that of waxing. However, an epilator does not destroy your skin. Waxing does destroy skin cells in the area being waxed.

An epilator only removes hair and not skin cells. Once you become used to epilating regularly, it is entirely possible for the pain to decrease since you are not ripping out skin as well as hair.

Epilators do not have the risk of cutting you like shaving does. Epilating eliminates those painful nicks and cuts that are entirely too common from shaving. Epilating also lasts much longer than a shave and there is no risk of potential razor burn.

5 easy steps to epilate your facial hair

What to Expect When Epilating your face?

What to Expect When Epilating

If you aren't familiar with epilating, you may be wondering what to expect from the experience. To achieve the best results it is important to set yourself up for success.

What to Expect When Epilating
If you aren't familiar with epilating, you may be wondering what to expect from the experience. To achieve the best results it is important to set yourself up for success.
Exfoliate
Before you even touch the epilator, always exfoliate your face. Removing the dead skin cells, extra oil, and other dirt will pave the way for a successful epilator experience. Exfoliating also makes the hair stand up which ensures that the epilator will remove it.
Exfoliation can be achieved with a washcloth, a loofah, or certain scrubs, such as a sugar scrub. When exfoliating your face it is crucial to be as gentle as possible while still fully removing the dead skin cells.
Epilate
When you are ready to begin epilating, make sure your epilator has plenty of power. Hold the epilator at a 90-degree angle to your skin. Keep your skin pulled taut to ensure that the hairs stand upwards and gently touch the epilator to your skin without pushing down.
When you're ready to start moving the epilator, go against the grain of your hair for the best results. Go slowly to ensure that you give the epilator sufficient time to pull out the hair instead of skipping or just cutting it.
Results
Like waxing, epilating pulls out the hair by the roots. Due to this, you end up with two or three weeks of smooth skin before the hair begins to show up again. Around the two to three week mark, you will likely have short hairs, but you can still epilate hairs as small as .5mm long.
In fact, epilating shorter hairs is often considered to be less painful and more efficient than waiting for them to grow out. This means that you will be epilating more often than you would wax but less often than you would shave.
Potential Side Effects
It is important to understand that like any hair removal method, epilating could cause some unwanted side effects. Ingrown hairs are the primary concern. However, treating ingrown hairs from an epilator is no different from treating other ingrown hairs. The majority of ingrown hairs will disappear on their own. If you need to intervene, treat it as you would any other ingrown hair. Go to a doctor if necessary. Exfoliating before epilating can prevent potential ingrown hairs.
Red bumps or irritated skin are another common side effect of epilating. However, this irritation can be quickly soothed by applying a facial lotion to the area after epilating.

Benefits of Using a Facial Epilator

Before buying an epilator for face, you may ask what are the benefits of using a facial epilator in comparison to other hair removal methods and regular epilators. The best part is they are affordable, they gives you the best result as they are made only for your facial hair removal and less painful than other regular epilators.

Like with any beauty product, there are a number of variables to consider before purchasing a facial epilator.
Purpose, budget, and pain are all important variables to give thought to before purchasing your facial epilator.
What to Look For

Difference Between Regular Epilator and Facial Epilator

A facial epilator is gentler than a regular epilator, which is important because the skin on your face is delicate and easily damaged. Using a regular epilator on your face can result in pain, irritation, and redness.

A facial epilator is often smaller than a regular epilator to allow for better visibility and higher levels of precision. This also makes it more portable.

Benefits to Epilation Over Other Hair Removal Methods for Facial Hair

Epilation is a highly underrated form of hair removal in general, but especially so for facial hair. Many people are hesitant to use an epilator on their face because a regular epilator can be damaging.

However, a facial epilator takes away the risk of damage that a regular epilator has. It is more efficient than shaving because shaving needs to be done every few days. Epilation may only be needed every few weeks.

Epilation is cheaper than waxing. Instead of buying a waxing kit or going to get your hair professionally waxed every few weeks, you can purchase an epilator that lasts for months, maybe years. Epilators are often only as expensive as a single waxing session, making them extremely cost-effective.

Pain and Facial Epilation

Since epilation removes hair from the roots, it is notorious for being a painful process. Many people are hesitant to try facial epilation because the face has more sensitive skin, making it more painful to pull hair out.

Epilation gets less painful the more you do it, and the first few times are the worst. If you have ever tweezed your eyebrows or waxed your face, that is about as painful as epilation is.

Using a Facial Epilator

Facial epilators are often very user-friendly and intuitive. If you have used a regular epilator, you may be concerned because the bulk of the epilator may make it difficult to see what you are doing on your face.

Facial epilators are often made smaller and thinner specifically to allow for better precision. Many resemble mascara wands or lipsticks and are used similarly.

Top 3 Alternatives to Facial Epilators

Though there are many hair removal methods, not all of them work equally on your face. As you’ve known before, I always recommend using a facial epilator for the best result. However, here I’ve discussed the top 3 hair removal methods for your face.

1. Tweezing

Tweezers are the most common tools for facial hair removal. Tweezing works best on the eyebrows and the chin area. It is very time consuming if you want to remove a lot of hair at a time hence not suitable for larger areas. However, with tweezers, you’ll get a long lasting result than shaving – for up to three to eight weeks depending on your facial area and types of hair.

2. Depilatory creams

Unlike tweezers, you can remove many hairs at a time using the depilatory creams. They are very cheap and easy to use. Depilatory creams use some chemicals that break the protein in your hair, making them weak and easily washed away. Dermatologists always recommend doing a patch test before using depilatory creams to check for allergies. However, the result of these products don’t last for more than a week.

3. Waxing

Waxing is the most popular hair removal method that can be done on both larger and smaller areas. It is very fast, effective and cheap hair removal method. You can easily do it at home. If your face is very sensitive, I don’t really recommend waxing your face because every time you wax your face, you’ll feel some pain. Redness and irritation on face are very common after waxing. So, you must be aware of these thing before you start waxing.

These three are the best methods for facial hair removal. They all are easy to perform and don’t break the bank. Until now, these are the top 3 methods I like most besides epilation. Chose one, take action and remove those ugly facial hairs!

So that was my take on some of the best facial epilators that you can buy right away. But, I’d advise you to consider the kind of epilators you need and, most importantly, your budget for the device.

Do check out factors such as the efficiency, features, ease of use, and comfort provided by the epilator that you’re going for and whether you require it for your body or your face.

I hope I was able to give you an insight into the subject and the mechanism of the products.

Thanks for reading!

Till next time!

Conclusion
Finding the best facial epilator is no easy task. However, we reviewed some of the best epilators on the market and think we have identified one of the best facial epilators. Earlier we discussed what is important to consider when purchasing an epilator.
The first variable was the purpose. These epilators are all specifically for your face. However, only one of them is truly dedicated to providing the best care for your face. The Braun Face 851 is more than just an epilator.
The Braun Face 851 includes attachments and heads that are designed to make it easy to exfoliate and clean your skin before epilating. This is a critical and often overlooked step, and the Braun Face 851 epilator is designed as a reminder.
The second variable was quality and budget. The Braun Face 851 runs for around $80. This epilator is affordable but not cheap. Since it comes with a variety of durable and important heads and parts, the price is clearly fair for the quality of the epilator.
The final variable we discussed was the pain. All of the epilators will be painful since they rip hair out from the root. However, the Braun Face 851 is equipped with the proper supplies and equipment to reduce the potential side effects that may cause pain after epilating. For example, the exfoliation attachment reduces the likelihood of ingrown hairs, which can be painful.
Overall, the Braun Face 851 excels in all our criteria. It is made for facial epilation and includes supplies for facial cleansing. It is made of good quality materials without being unfairly priced. Finally, it allows the user to easily prevent painful side effects such as ingrown hairs.

How many of you enjoy having to constantly shave or wax your face?

If you're like the majority of people, you don't.

However, with an epilator, you can eliminate hair with the efficiency of waxing without destroying skin cells. Finding the right epilator is incredibly important. This facial epilator review is designed to streamline the process of investing in a facial epilator.

Other than ensuring you're purchasing a quality product, you need to be able to take into account your finances, needs, and comfort level with an epilator. Luckily, we've compiled a list of the best epilators for face 2018.
